About
Hello! I’m Chris Jewell, M0DWK, a keen radio amateur in High Bentham, North Yorkshire. We’re in a great place here, situated between the UK’s Forest of Bowland, Yorkshire Dales, and Lake District.
I began my journey in amateur radio back in 2004, having passed my Foundation Licence exam with the callsign M3HGI. I then quickly took my Intermediate License exam with the callsign 2E0AYO, before progressing to the Full Licence with my current callsign. I’m mostly interested in HF and electronics, though I’m currently keeper of both the GB7IB Yaesu System Fusion repeater, and the MB7UWV APRS node.
In my day job I work at Lancaster University, where I lead the MARS: Mathematics for AI in Real-world Systems programme. I’m lucky enough to work with some of the world’s leading researchers in computational statistics, machine learning, and AI methodology. For my part, I work in spatial epidemic modelling, on applications in human disease such as Covid19 and antimicrobial resistance, and in animal diseases such as foot and mouth disease, avian influenza, and tick-borne disease.
